This shouldn’t need to be said, but fanfic writing should be treated like a community and not competition

Hello! I was looking through your index to find this specifically and couldn’t so thought I’d ask. Do you have any fic recs that involve love at first sight or a whirlwind romance where the two fall in love quite quickly? Tysm!

If you can't trust the weather, trust nothing

Every Day a Dying Day by lovetincture [words: 8,210]

  • Will Graham is a professional mourner. He attends strangers’ funerals and grieves their loss, for a fee. Hannibal is a serial killer. He visits the funerals of people he’s killed. They notice each other immediately. Like recognizes like, and neither of them truly belong at the funerals they attend. Hannibal is fascinated by Will’s terrible empathy, and Will knows immediately that Hannibal is a serial killer. None of that stops them from wanting to get closer.

And Why The Sea is Boiling Hot by LydiaFearing [words: 12,034]

A Hollow Ache by gleamingandwholeanddeadly (something_safe) [words: 41,097]

  • AU where Will is a civilian on vacation who meets Hannibal while he’s on the run in Florence. Of course Hannibal is incapable of keeping a low profile, so he immediately offers to play tour guide. They fall in love.

I Am Not A Morning Person by stratumgermanitivum [words: 14,852]

  • I Am Not A Morning Person opened at 4:30 AM. Usually. Their menu was obscene and ever changing, and they offered shots of tequila in their coffee to anyone with an ID. Hannibal fell in love with their grouchy baker anyway.

Titan Arum by ProxyOne [words: 64,614]

  • Will is a botanist, working in the greenhouse of the local Botanical Gardens. He is getting his life back on track after his divorce, but he can’t help but notice someone who keeps coming back to his greenhouse to draw, day after day. A man who seems to have been paying very close attention to him…

Rescues by drinkbloodlikewine and whiskeyandspite [words: 99,552]

  • Mischa is living with PTSD, and Hannibal seeks out a service animal to help her. He meets Will, trainer of therapy dogs - cue puppies, adorable interactions and lots of dogs. And smut. Of course.

Separately to a Wood by emungere [words: 13,891]

  • AU where Hannibal just proposes to Will that morning in the motel room #and for some reason Will says ‘yes’

Provenance by drinkbloodlikewine, whiskeyandspite [words: 62,735]

  • A delightful AU about a rare book dealer, an owner of a high-end coffee shop, and murder. This does involve Hannibal Lecter, after all.

  • Will dials the wrong number and somehow Hannibal ends up on the other end of the conversation.

Your Beck and Call by CarnivalMirai [words: 6,343]

  • Hannibal is naturally like that. Flirty, that is. With everyone. So it’s nothing special when he flirts with Will too, but god, does he know how to make his heart gallop and his face fluster. Will hates how Hannibal has this effect on him without even realizing it. Most people flirt back. But not Will. Will doesn’t want to be one of those people.

Ship of Dreams by StratsWrites, whiskeyandspite [words: 20,134]

  • Will had no one to wave to. He had no one to see him off. Even so opulently dressed, he had nothing at all to his name but his ability to bear children when the time came. It didn’t feel like the ship of dreams to him, even with Margot shoulder to shoulder with him, smiling wide in the afternoon sunshine. To Will it was a ship carrying him off to the rest of his miserable life.

Until I Met You by Dormchi [words: 33,990]

John Koch (1909-1978) The Sculptor, 1964.

“Ernest Ulmer posed for Koch’s “most self-revealing painting”, The Sculptor (1964, oil on canvas, 80” x 59 7/8", Brooklyn Museum). Its original title was Prometheus, the god who stole fire from Mount Olympus. A full-length standing male nude seen from behind, Ulmer towers over the seated Koch and holds a cigarette lighter at hip level, while the artist leans in to get a light. The lighter illuminates Koch’s face and its flame is vividly reflected in his glasses, “a sexually loaded reference to Prometheus’s gift of fire to mankind”.

As punishment for the theft of fire, Zeus chained Prometheus to a rock and sent an eagle each day to tear out his liver. Koch was an occasional sculptor, and modeled Prometheus and Hercules, a work depicting Hercules wrestling with the eagle to rescue the chained Prometheus. A large version of this appears in the background of The Sculptor, and Ulmer may have posed for the sculpture as well as the painting.“ (source: wikipedia)

Small shitty comic inspired by What the Heart Forgets that really doesn’t do the beautiful series any justice but I thought I’d post anyway !

For context: the fic is a heart-wrenching reincarnation au in which Arthur is the only one who remembers their previous lives as nations. In this scene, Francis comes across an object from their past in Arthur’s attic and, for a moment, remembers who ‘Arthur’ really is - or used to be. This scene in particular broke my heart and I really wanted to draw something based on it 💔

Also shoutout to @oumaheroes and their equally heart-wrenching fic The Grace of Forgetting from the same au, without which I wouldn’t have found the original !

Do you write music with the view of being politically active and delivering a message or does it just happen and the rest follows?

#this is a perspective I’ve only seen from people who truly think broadly and sympathetically about life#like he’s literally right I’m sorry and people who aren’t white or cis or straight learn so so SO early that your existence is political#not inherently but because white cishet men have crafted society in a way it’s impossible for it not to be#and ignoring that isn’t going to make you ascend above it god I’m so tired of having to explain that to people#I’m tired of people’s experiences in both places of privilege and place of oppression being used to scapegoat what we all can see#like look at his example!#‘going out for a dance on a Saturday night’ means something different if you’re poor if you’re gay if you’re a racial minority#’walking into a shop’ who owns it how often do you go is it a big box store or a small owned business is it walkable#there’s pOLitiCs in all of that! in ever aspect of your life!#ESPECIALLY if you take your life experiences and turn them into art of any form (via @twentyfour-mp3)

Friendly reminder that Hozier’s first music video, in 2013, involved him literally taking his life savings and using it to make a protest video about anti-gay actions in Chechnya. This was not a popular position at the time, to the point that damn near every interviewer asked “so, are you gay?” because they literally could not figure out why he cared so much.

Incidentally, after the first few times of saying “no, I’m straight but it’s important,” he started saying “you can think that if you want.” ALSO not a popular position at the time. Adam Lambert’s entire career had been derailed only four years before because he dared to be openly gay and sexual about it.

He literally came out swinging like Muhammad Ali and has not stopped. And he finds it odd that people find it odd! Like he was asked if he was aware of his “lesbian cult following” and seemed genuinely puzzled why he has a lesbian cult following (and, later, just a massive queer following in general) and it’s like. Honey. You loved us first. You loved us more and harder than most people were willing to. When it was unpopular to even whisper about how maybe queer people shouldn’t be seen as inhuman actually, you grabbed a megaphone and screamed. You risked not just losing a career, but never having one at all, to stand by us. You loved us. We’re just loving you back.
